“I opened a conversation with Farah at the call room. I told him ‘How are you, idol?’ And he answered back ‘OK’ and asked me from where I am. I told him I’m from the Philippines and he said good luck to me,” Herrera narrated.

“When I entered the stadium, I almost cried. I told myself ‘This is it. Here’s your dream before you,’” the Seaman Second Class at the Philippine Navy, narrated.

He added: “I never imagined I would be an Olympian. What is a former kargador doing in the Olympics? This has always been my dream!”

At the finish, Farah, already rested and no longer sweating, gave the courageous Filipino a pat on the back.

“That completed my Olympic dream,” Herrera said.

Just hours after the close of the Olympics, a female shot putter from Belarus was stripped of her gold Monday in the first case of an athlete losing a medal for doping at the London Games.

The International Olympic Committee said Ostapchuk, a former world champion, tested positive for steroids both before and after winning the shot put last week for her first Olympic gold.

"We feel cheated in a way, not being able to play the anthem and having taken the moment off her," Longo said.
