    use back support belt

or you might be lifting too heavy that is why you tend to arch your back

^ it's ok to lift heavy, you need it in order to stimulate muscle growth

    just avoid lifting "too heavy"

I experienced that one time na over-arch ko ung back ko pero hindi naman ako na-injure kasi na kontra ko agad.

    @nrg

After one month of no weight lifting

I am surprised that was able to minimize strength loss on my chest muscles by doing regular push ups

Before I stopped, I was lifting 120 lbs on the bench press for 2 sets of 7 reps

I tried to lift again yesterday. I was still able to lift 120 lbs on the bench press for 2 sets of 6 reps

For the inclined bench press, my previous lifting capacity is 100 lbs. I was able to lift 90 lbs only

For the back muscles, I lost a considerable amount of strenght. Before, I can lift 160 lbs on the lateral pull down machine. Yesterday, I was capped at 120 lbs for the lateral pull down

I didn't eat a pre-workout meal before I lifted yesterday. I did a short workout composed of flat bench press, inclined bench press, lateral pull down, and one arm dumbbell row. Each exercise has 2 sets only

I have to stop all exercises that hit the lower back. I can only do leg press for my quadriceps

Well, it's a lot better than totally stopping all exercises

I am very cautious now... I use back support belt even on the lateral pull down machine

Even on standing exercises like the standing dumbbell curl, I am still wearing a back support belt

^ no offense sir, medyo mababa pa ata mga lifts mo para mag decline talaga ng malaki. lol. grabe ang back support ah. :)

    Strength is relative

But according to Martin Berkhan, you are an advanced weight lifter already if you can lift 2x of your body weight

He he. By his standards, I am still a beginner

  • ipisipis Posts: 223
^ yun din goals ko eh, 2x or more on major lifts. hahahaha.

ang daming apektado pag lower back
  • ipisipis Posts: 223
  • nrg500nrg500 Posts: 1,233
di kasi ako gumagamit dati ng back support belt pag nag deadlift at squat

itigil ko muna for 6 months or more ang lahat ng exercise involving lower back. natatakot ako, baka mabaldado ako

  • ipisipis Posts: 223
^ oh my. so dapat mag back support na pala ako. medyo sumasakit likod ko pag nag ssquat at deadlift eh.

    ^

better to be safe than sorry

    wag ka tumulad sa akin

gumamit ka na ng back support belt lalo na kung more than your body weight na ang binubuhat mo

napakahirap ng may lower back injury... nakakainis at nakakalungkot :(

got diagnosed with lumbar spondylosis 2 yrs ago. same with nrg500. maling akala about core strength so di ako nag belt. felt pinching pains in my lower back the day after doing an 80kg standing barbell military press. ignored ko lang and continued working out as usual - big mistake. felt some numbness in my left leg a couple of weeks later. went to a doctor, ayun bad news na. naiipit na daw pala nerve ko sa likod kaya pala may numbness.

so bawal ako mag buhat buhat @ got injected via iv push nang pain killer @ vitamin b12. now am back in the gym doing moderate lifts, and focusing more on safety while lifting.

Besides, being prone to injury is part of the game.

  • bodybuilding....it is said to be that injury is in the line always. consider doing good form or you will end up your lifting career is over. imho.
  • like bardagul said, focus more on safety while lifting, that includes proper form. if you go for very heavy weights, look for a spotter to assist you. in that way, you avoid injuries.
